Quick answer

Powder coating is a dry finish applied electrostatically to bare metal and cured in an oven at roughly 400°F, forming a single continuous shell that is several times thicker than wet paint. Zeal Restyling powder coats wheels, brake calipers, trim, suspension and chassis parts in Bluffdale, Utah, with in house stripping, blasting, coating and curing and a typical 3 to 5 day turnaround. A properly prepped finish routinely lasts 10+ years against road salt, UV and chips.

Why powder, not paint

A finish that's baked on, not sprayed on.

Powder is applied dry, electrostatically charged to the bare metal, then cured into a single continuous shell. There's no solvent to flash off and no clear coat to delaminate, which is exactly why it survives Utah winters and canyon roads.

01

Chip resistance

A powder film is several times thicker than wet paint and stays flexible enough to take rock strikes without spidering.

02

Salt & brine proof

Wasatch Front road salt eats clear coat and bare alloy. Cured powder seals the substrate completely, edges included.

03

UV stable color

Properly cured polyester powders hold their gloss and color for years of full sun instead of chalking out.

04

Heat tolerant

High temp powders for calipers and exhaust hardware handle sustained heat that would discolor ordinary paint.

What we coat

If it's metal and it comes off the car, we can finish it.

Most popular

Wheels

Full color change, factory refresh, or two tone lip and face. Tires dismounted, TPMS protected, rebalanced on the way out.

Fast turn

Brake calipers

High temp powder in OEM red, factory look black, or anything loud. Logos masked, or new decals applied.

Trim

Chrome delete

Grilles, window surrounds, badges and mirror caps taken from chrome to satin or gloss black permanently.

Build parts

Suspension & chassis

Control arms, subframes, sway bars, skid plates and roll bars, stripped, blasted and sealed against corrosion.

Powersports

Moto & ATV

Frames, swingarms, hubs, racks and bumpers. Bring the bare parts or the whole assembly.

Off the road

Household & industrial

Patio furniture, railings, gates, shelving and shop fixtures. Same oven, same durability.

Colors and finishes

Over 200 powders, and a physical chip before you commit.

Screens lie about color. We pull real chips from our supplier books and hold them against your car in daylight, because a bronze that looks perfect on a phone can read green next to your paint.

Standard

Gloss

The hardest wearing and the easiest to clean. Deep shine that holds up to wheel cleaner and winter salt.

Standard

Satin and matte

Flat and modern, and very good at hiding brake dust. Needs slightly gentler cleaning than gloss.

Premium

Metallic

Flake suspended in the powder so the color moves with the light. Usually finished with a clear powder over the top.

Show

Candy over a base

A translucent color sprayed over a bright base, then cleared. Depth you cannot get from a single stage, and the reason Tier 3 exists.

Utility

Textured and wrinkle

Hides imperfections on older castings and grips well underfoot. Common on chassis parts, racks and skid plates.

Matching

Factory color match

Send a paint code or a photo and we will pull the closest powder available and show you the chip before anything goes in the booth.

Before Black Hyundai Palisade on its factory machined silver wheels before powder coating at Zeal Restyling
After The same Palisade after its wheels were powder coated gloss black at Zeal Restyling in Bluffdale, Utah

Same vehicle, same wheels. The factory machined faces were stripped to bare metal, blasted to a uniform profile, coated gloss black and fully cured, then remounted and balanced. Nothing filled, nothing painted over.

Colors shown anywhere on a screen are an approximation. We confirm with a physical chip against your vehicle before the part is coated.

The process

Six steps. No shortcuts in the prep.

Ninety percent of a powder failure traces back to contamination before the gun ever comes out. This is where the time goes.

01

Teardown & inspection

Tires dismounted, hardware bagged, TPMS sensors pulled. We document existing curb rash, bends and cracks before anything else happens.

02

Strip & blast

Old coating removed chemically or thermally, then media blasted to a uniform profile so the new powder has something to bite into.

03

Chemical wash & outgas

Degreased, rinsed, dried, then prebaked so porous castings release trapped oils instead of bubbling through your finish.

04

Masking

Hub bores, bearing surfaces, threads and sealing beads get high temp masking so nothing critical picks up thickness.

05

Coat & cure

Electrostatic application, then a full cure schedule at roughly 400°F. Multistage colors get a base, a candy or metallic layer, and a clear.

06

QC & reassembly

Coverage checked under light, hardware reinstalled, tires remounted and balanced, torqued to spec and handed back clean.

FAQ

Common questions about powder coating

How long does powder coating last?
On wheels and chassis parts, a properly prepped and cured finish routinely goes 10+ years without failing. What shortens it is impact damage and skipped prep, not the powder itself.
Do I have to bring the wheels off the car?
You don't. Drop the vehicle off and we'll handle removal, tire dismount, coating, remount, balance and torque. If you'd rather bring bare wheels, that lowers the cost.
Will the oven damage my alloy wheels or TPMS sensors?
No. Cure temperatures sit well below the point that affects cast or forged aluminum temper. Sensors, valve stems and any rubber components come out before the part ever sees heat.
Can you match a factory color or a color I've seen?
Usually. Send us a photo or a paint code and we'll pull the closest available powder and show you a physical chip before we commit.
What about curb rash and cracks?
Light curb rash gets sanded and filled as part of prep. Bends and cracks need structural repair first. We will inspect, photograph and quote that separately rather than coating over a problem.
How do I take care of it afterward?
Wash with normal car soap. Skip acid based wheel cleaners and aggressive degreasers, which can dull the surface over time. That's the whole maintenance routine.
